Funding Support For High Performing Amateurs

Our History
Carnoustie Golf Links has a long and storied history of producing outstanding, high performing amateur golfers who have gained international honours. We have had Season Ticket Holders who have achieved success and represented Carnoustie across the world. As an organisation, we would like this success to continue.

Our Goal
To allow us to continue to help nurture future generations of high performing golfers, a support programme has been launched for players who reach or aspire to reach a high performance amateur standard in all levels of adult and disability golf. Gaining international representative honours is an unbelievable achievement. It is something we aim to support at Carnoustie Golf Links and inspire our high performing Season Ticket Holders to accomplish. We understand that there are financial barriers to competing at the highest level and our goal is to assist with some of the these costs, while providing support in other ways.

The Support Programme
At this initial stage, we would like to support six players  during the 2024 season. The support would help reduce many of the expenses incurred by a high performing amateur and is shown in the table below. The golfers who will be supported are:

  • 1 golfer competing nationally in men’s or senior men’s amateur events
  • 1 golfer competing nationally in women’s or senior women’s amateur events
  • 1 golfer competing nationally in disability golf events
  • 1 golfer who is under 23 years old (on 1st January 2024) and competing nationally in men’s, women’s or disability amateur events
  • A further 2 golfers of any age competing nationally in men’s, women’s or disability golf amateur events.

Accessing The Programme
If a player wishes to be considered for funding, they will apply through the funding support form that can be accessed below. All applications will be reviewed by a funding panel and players in each of the categories listed above will be awarded funding for the 2024 season if they meet the funding criteria.

Funding Criteria – Men’s and Women’s Amateur Events

  • A player will be of the handicap standard and/or have an official WAGR that will allow them to compete regularly in national events – men’s, senior men’s, women’s or senior women’s.
  • A player will provide a schedule of events they plan to participate in during the funding application process. These events should correlate with Scottish Golf’s selection criteria for gaining a place in the respective Scottish teams for The Home Internationals matches and/or European Team Championships.
  • A player must provide 25 hours of their time throughout the year to mentor players in The Carnoustie Craws High Performance Programme.
  • A player will link with the CGL Marketing Team to provide event results and highlights throughout the season.

Funding Criteria – Disability Golf Events

  • A player will be of standard that will allow them to compete regularly in Scottish Disability Golf and Curling national events.
  • A player will provide a schedule of events they plan to participate in during the funding application process. These events should correlate with selection criteria for gaining a place in the national team for The Phoenix Cup.
  • A player must provide 25 hours of their time throughout the year to mentor players in The Carnoustie Golf Links Golfers With Disabilities Programme.
  • A player will link with the CGL Marketing Team to provide event results and highlights throughout the season.

Mentorship Programme
The Funding Support Programme will help players to further their aspirations in golf but in return, all players must commit 25 hours of time as a mentor to the Carnoustie Craws High Performance Programme and/or Carnoustie Golf Links Golfers With Disabilities Programme. The value of this mentorship programme cannot be underestimated. Providing real role models for younger players would help enormously and will establish the virtuous cycle that would help create continuous success within our programmes.

Closing Date
Closing date for applications was Thursday 29th February 2024. The funding panel will be considering applications at a meeting in early March and will announce our supported players ASAP.
