Craw’s Nest Tassie 2018 – Day 3
Day three of The Tassie can only mean one thing…the match play rounds begin.
The wind was a little tamer and the sun shone as the first round of match play took place in the Craw’s Nest Tassie and the Maulesbank Trophy over the Championship Course and Buddon Links Course respectively, with 64 players being whittled down to 32 in each competition.
The first seed in The Tassie, Thomas Cummings avoided an upset as he beat Jonas Wenell 4&3 in the day’s opening match on the Championship Course, but the same couldn’t be said for the second, third and fourth seeds who were all beaten in their first round matches. Meanwhile, Lansdown Golf Club’s Dominic Thorp, seeded first in the Maulesbank Trophy beat Bob McWalter of Duddingston Golf Club 8&6 in the opening game on the Buddon Links Course but second seed Norman Haslam of Stand Golf Club was beaten 2&1 by Jimmy Callaghan of Dunscar Golf Club.
The longest matches of the day were Arron Williams of Prestatyn Golf Club against Adam Glover of Stock Brook Manor and West Lancashire’s Nick Blackhurst against Steven Brooks of Blyth golf Club, with both matches going to the 20th hole in the Tassie and Adam Wells of Bay Creek Golf Club and Kevin Alger of Knole Park Golf Club in the Maulesbank Trophy, who also went to the 20th hole.
