Fibre Optic Installation
The installation of the permanent fibre optic network around the Championship course and the associated areas has begun as of 12 April 2017. The main work will be ongoing to June 2017 but disruption to play will be minimal.
The physical network within the Carnoustie/Open event boundaries will provide a platform for the delivery and enablement of all digital communications including broadcast. It will also provide the host venue with a permanent digital network infrastructure. Examples of the kind of digital services which the fibre network can host include;
- Internet to over 30,000 users around The Open site, including journalists and photographers
- The ability to serve up to 10,000 concurrent users streaming live coverage of the Championship
- Provides phone lines to over 400 users around The Open site
- Allows use of linked EPOS till systems around the course
- Connects pay gates together for Bar-code Ticket Systems
- Provides Photographers with on-course download facilities
- Used for distribution of Open television broadcast coverage on site
- Used by police for pay gate CCTV system
- Provides a base for golf course wide Wireless connectivity mesh
- Provides a platform to facilitate a dedicated course-wide scoring network
- Provides distribution points for Championship scoring terminals around the venue
- Facilitates connectivity to all large screens and LED Scoreboards on each green around the Championship course
- Links all television camera positions from the golf course to the TV Compound for broadcasters
- Course wide IPTV service for over 500 HD TVS
This installation will go a long way to ensuring the continued presence of Carnoustie Championship course on the Open Championship rota.
