Development and maintenance of the courses has been the responsibility of several different bodies over the years – Dalhousie Golf Club, the Town Council and, latterly, Angus Council who set up the Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee in 1980 to manage the golf courses on their behalf. The Management Committee at that time was composed of 2 members from the Caledonia, Carnoustie, Mercantile, Dalhousie, New Taymouth and Carnoustie Ladies Golf Clubs respectively. Latterly, the Management committee evolved into a Company Limited by guarantee with the addition of 3 directors from Angus Council. In 2014 the Company obtained charitable status with the incumbent Directors becoming a Board of Trustees.
The Trust regularly donates funds to benefit the local community and reinvests all profits into the courses and facilities to ensure that future generations will benefit from the game of golf at Carnoustie.
