I perform solid at the Welsh Amateur this year. A few little mistakes that cost me from finishing in the top 25 but overall I am pleased for the first term of the season and lots to build on.

Rory said: “Overall I think this year has had its ups and downs but it’s been a positive year and have gained a lot of experience and hopefully can have a good run at next year.”

15.08.23
St Andrews Bay Championship Pre-Qualifier

Course: Fairmont
Round Score: 72

Rory said: “This was a great event and great experience for me to go up against the pros for the first time. I was nervous in the first couple holes but I got through them and settled into the round nicely. I take great confidence from playing this after beating a few well-known pros in Scotland was great for the confidence of knowing I have some ability to compete with these guys.”

5.8.23 & 6.8.23
Amateur Champion Gold Medal (Leven Gold Medal)

Course: Leven Links
Round Score: 75, 70, 75, 73

Rory said: “After just playing the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship the same week I was feeling motivated to have a good result at Leven and put my earlier score from the week behind me. I was looking forward to this tournament and it paid off – my putting was also much better after getting a session from both Keir McNicoll and Stuart Milne on the way back down from Dornoch!”

1.8.23 – 5.8.23
Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship

Course: Royal Dornoch Championship Course
Round Score: 80, 79

Rory said: “This year’s Scottish men’s amateur felt quite promising to me. I got off to a good start on Day 1 at Royal Dornoch, with four pars in the opening four holes, which was excellent for the nerves and helped to steady the ship. However, things fell apart, and I finished up with 40 putts in one round, which is not acceptable at that level. When we came to Day 2, my head was all over the place from the day before, and I lost all confidence, especially with the putter, and I didn’t come away with the outcome I hoped for.”

24.6.23 & 25.6.23
East of Scotland Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship

Course: Lundin Golf Club
Round Score: 73, 78

Rory said: “I played well in the morning, but I couldn’t hole any putts to show a good score on the scorecard. With five holes to go, I was well within the cut but hit a bad driver off of 15 that cost me the cut. I was disappointed with back-to-back weeks of missing the cut and felt I should have made the cut this time.”

Tennant Cup

Course: Gailes Links (Glasgow Golf Club)
Round Score: 74, 80

Rory said: “I had a great opening round in the morning with 15 pars, however I fell short with my putter and ended up +3. I had a solid start in the afternoon round as well but as we hit the return I hit a few wayward shots that cost me to make the cut.”

2.6.23
Scottish Men’s Open Pre-Qualifier

Course: Kemnay Golf Club
Round Score: 76

Rory said: “I had a strong start to the round I was -1 through the first three holes. A few silly shots cost me the chance to qualify, and I lost on countback which was very frustrating. However, I feel it was a great building block for the rest of the year and was feeling positive.”
