On 9th October 2021, Carnoustie Golf Links will host a first of its kind 10-Hole Championship on The Carnoustie Championship Course – open to all of their Season Ticket Holders with no restrictions on age, gender or handicap.
This brand-new 10-Hole event is the brain-child of the executive team at Carnoustie, with Keir McNicoll, Head PGA Professional in charge of the tournament, which this year is being hosted in association with The Double A Trading Company who are Carnoustie Golf Links John Deere turf equipment partners providing a wide range of garden, estate and professional turf equipment. The brand-new tournament will see players tee it up on a unique 9-hole routing of The Carnoustie Championship Course, with the top four ranking players going on to a 10th hole play-off on the infamous 18th hole to battle it out to become the very first winner of the Carnoustie Golf Links 10-Hole Championship and receive the ultimate prize including a round of golf with the legendary Paul Lawrie.
Keir said “This tournament means so much to us all at Carnoustie, we have always been an inclusive venue and this tournament epitomises the value that we place on growing the game of golf, not only in terms of participation, but also in attitude and acceptance. We believe that the game of golf, which has so many health and wellbeing benefits, should be open to everyone who wants to play. A tournament like this gives our Season Ticket Holders the chance to play in a competitive format without feeling intimidated by the field. They know that they can play with their friends and family and compete at their own level.”
Michael Wells, Chief Executive at Carnoustie Golf Links said “We are delighted that Double A are working with us to bring this extraordinary tournament to life. They have provided us with the very best John Deere greenkeeing equipment that allows us to keep our courses in championship condition at all times. And that’s what our competitors in this 10-Hole Championship will find on the day – an outstanding golf course in excellent condition. Our Golf Development programmes here at Carnoustie are already leading the way, and this championship is the next iteration of that, allowing golfers to experience competitive golf in a more comfortable environment.”
Sandy Armit, Managing Director at Double A said “Supplying the equipment which keeps Carnoustie Golf Links in world-renowned condition is an honour for us, so to now be able to partner up with the Carnoustie Team to bring the first ever mixed entry, fully inclusive golf competition to the links is something we are delighted to be involved with. There is a real need to make competitive golf more accessible to all ages and abilities, and this competition does exactly that which we are extremely proud of and excited to see where it goes.”
The tournament was inspired by the course’s original architect, Allan Robertson, who laid out the first 10 holes in 1842 (although the first record of golf played on this links land dates all the way back to 1527). The unique routing of the course will see competitors play the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes, with the final 10th hole play-off taking place on the 18th hole.
The winner of the Carnoustie Golf Links 10-Hole Championship this year will become part of Carnoustie Golf Links history being the very first name to be awarded the prize. Carnoustie Golf Links encourage any spectators to come along on 9th October and cheer on the competitors during a day of wonderful golf.
